About HomeGrounds
HomeGrounds is a Dutch neighbourhood insights platform that turns official government statistics into clear, actionable information for home buyers, renters, and anyone who wants to understand a Dutch neighbourhood or district.
What does HomeGrounds do?
Enter a Dutch postcode and house number and HomeGrounds loads statistics about the surrounding neighbourhood and district. These are displayed by category — safety, housing, demographics, income, and proximity to amenities — and compared against the municipal and national average.
Data sources
HomeGrounds combines four official government datasets with Foursquare Places data for nearby locations:
- CBS Key Figures for Neighbourhoods and Districts (86165NED) — over 150 indicators per buurt and wijk: population, housing, income, employment and more.
- CBS Proximity to Amenities (86134NED) — distances to schools, supermarkets, GPs, parks, and public transport stops.
- CBS Socioeconomic Status (86092NED) — the SES-WOA score: a composite socioeconomic status index per neighbourhood.
- Veiligheidsmonitor (CBS / Ministry of Justice) — a national population survey on safety perception, victimisation, and neighbourhood problems.
- Foursquare Places — nearby shops, hospitality venues, and amenities for a fuller picture of the immediate surroundings.
Coverage
HomeGrounds covers all approximately 11,000 buurten and wijken in the Netherlands. Every valid Dutch PC6 postcode can be searched.
Benchmarks
Every statistic is automatically compared against the average (or median) of the municipality and the national average for all Dutch neighbourhoods. This lets you see directly whether a neighbourhood stands above or below the typical level for any given characteristic.
Updates
CBS datasets are updated once a year, typically in spring. HomeGrounds processes each new edition as soon as it becomes available.
